about

A 'Pataphysics Rap Exhibition

"New York by way of San Diego MC/Producer SCVTTERBRVIN is back with his new EP produced entirely by friend of the site Messiah Musik entitled The Theatre of The Absurd. SCVTTERBRVIN is well loved around these parts and was actually the first person we ever interviewed here, and since then has unleashed project after project himself as well as others through his Red Lotus Klan imprint. The Theatre of The Absurd connects one of the underground’s most intrepid MCs with one of underground’s most intrepid producers and the end result is the sonic equivalent of doing LSD and dissecting/discussing paranoid political and social theories while rhyming your ass off." - damnthatnoise.tumblr.com

"The self proclaimed weirdo and LSD consumptioner (??) SCVTTERBRVIN has been dropping product (not acid!) on a regular for quite some time, +10 releases dating back to the beginning of the new millennium, as well as being part of the Masters Of The Universe, a crew of dope artists, who's origin dates back to the 90's, oh and then he has been quite a successful battle rapper as well as he is currently a label boss. All this and besides rapping he is a very fukkin talented producer himself, but SCVTTERBRVIN chose to put all the beat making in the trusted hands of Messiah Musik, that was a very good choice because the producer seems to be all in on this 6 piece madness.
As written earlier the Acid Atheist does have a past in battle rap and he uses that skillset very delicately, whenever he is about to tip too much over into a word orgie he gets right back on track and gives us a hard point that sums up the shit, well most of the times, anyway. SCVTTERBRVIN got a thing for "dark" stuff and his albums often have a goth or occult like vibe to it, either in the title or the cover art, but mostly in both. As the title suggests, as well as a very obscure cover of a scary looking nun with machine guns(!) on a platter, this is not a regular boom bap album. And yes, the New Yorker from San Diego does have tendencies to rhyme about other things than your "regular braggadocio, gun/drugs, money/hoes stuff" that you hear in 95 % of all other hip hop lyrics, or at least he then put a twist to it, and tho he claims to be too weird for the streets he is, as his prior output was titled, also "too Street for the weird" and the drums are almost always banging as well as his delivery is very up front and in your face, which makes the hard beats and raw spitting a perfect match. Too me you can be as "weird" as you like if you can spit that gully shit and the beat bangs. And both things is most evident on The Theater of the Absurd. Give me one more ticket, please…" - www.hiphopjuxx.info
